All mighty “blue screen of death”. How to win the fight with kernel security check failure in 2021?

If you are reading these lines now, congratulations, you are in luck! You will learn valuable information that will forever save your computer from the blue screen of death.

Imagine: you are watching a movie on your computer when suddenly that is interrupted. All you see in front of you is a blue screen and an error message. You panic, don't know what to do and look for a solution to the problem, but nothing helps. Sound familiar, right?

I bet if you had read my article before, the blue screen would never bother you again.

However, the blue screen error is not accidental. Such a system failure is called a blue screen of death (BSOD), and in most cases, occurs as a result of a kernel security check failure.

According to statistics, millions of users face the computer blue screen every day, even in 2021. Still, not all of them manage to recover their data. Sometimes users have to contact the service center for help.

But everything is not as scary as it seems at first blush. Not necessary to go to the service center and wait a few days to resolve the Windows blue screen. I know that this error can be solved once. I came across a blue screen from my own experience and successfully fixed it.

Today you will learn what to do when your computer decides to scare you a little!

This article discusses the technologies that should be used to eliminate the Blue Screen of Death error in the Windows operating system. Any use of these methods for hacking or unauthorized access is illegal. All information is provided only to inform you about the causes of the death error and how to solve it.

What is the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD)?

Our body informs us of illness through pain and unpleasant symptoms. In the same way, the computer, like our body, makes it known about malfunctions and errors in the operation of the system through BSoD (blue screen of death). Blue screen is the name of a critical error message in Windows.

All you can do when faced with a blue screen is restart your computer. If you're lucky, the computer will turn on after restarting, and you will get off with a slight fright. I think that you will quickly forget about this incident and continue to use your computer, not even suspecting that the “disease” has made its way into the system and is already destroying your computer!

I know that you are anxious to know how to solve Windows stop code once and for all, but I will tell you about this a little later. After all, first, you have to find out what factors provoke the emergence of the computer blue screen. Why is it important?

From my own experience, I was convinced that a successful solution to the problem is possible only in the case of a detailed analysis of the reasons due to which the blue screen on computers occurs.

When I first encountered the blue screen of death problem, I rebooted my computer and safely forgot about this. Six months later, the laptop blue screen again visited me - only this time the consequences were critical! I lost all my unsaved files. Can you imagine how sad I was when I realized that my report, which I had been working on all day, did not survive? I had to go to the service center to save at least the computer.

I do not want you to repeat my mistakes, so now I will tell you what "diseases" provoke BSoD.

What causes a blue screen?

The Blue Screen of Death is an uninvited guest that comes even to the most stable operating systems - Windows 7 and Windows 10. The fact is that sometimes operation system drivers develop by unskilled developers, which ultimately leads to system crashes.

So we need to fix the faulty program, and everything will work out, yes? I wouldn't be so sure. The fact is that in case of an error, the developers of Windows force us to use their support service, which indicates only the error code. That's all. The support service no longer provides information, leaving you alone with the problem.

Don't worry: you no longer need to decode error numbers because I have analyzed possible prevalent causes of the failure.

Code of error Name of error Description
0x00000139 KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
0x00000007f UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP means there's a hardware failure or conflict
0x00000024 NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM means the hard drive has been corrupted
0x0000001E KMODE_EXPECTION_NOT_HANDLED is a driver issue or incompatibility
0xA IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
(netwtw06.sys)
can be the fault of a service provided by a backup or antivirus application
0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA has to do with new hardware in combination with old drivers
0x0000001A MEMORY_MANAGEMENT the error most often occurs due to a conflict of drivers with the system

If you don't see your bug number listed or your operating system version is lower than Windows 10, don't panic because the same solutions apply to most bugs.

According to statistics, the most common mistake is kernel security check error.

It is not surprising: I encountered this error several times, resulting in which I lost all unsaved files.

Now I will tell you in more detail about this error and how to fix it.

What is Kernel Security Check Failure?

Every Windows 10 user has encountered this error at least once. Microsoft developers are not robots but ordinary people who can also make bugs when creating system components and modules. The fact is that Windows is closed source, which also contributes to errors.

So, kernel security check failure is a critical Windows error that cannot be resolve without user intervention.

Restarting will not help in this case since the error indicates a failure in the system.

For someone, such an error could appear only once in a lifetime, and someone has encountered it more. In any case, the computer needs to be "cured" and analyzed for failure.

So why does the system crash?

Typically, a kernel security check occurs for the following reasons:

  • Malicious software
  • Malfunctions in the computer hardware (hard drive, RAM, power supply, video card, etc.)
  • Overheating PC
  • Incorrect BIOS settings
  • Not enough free hard disk space
  • Driver conflict
  • Incompatibility of drivers and other components of the operating system

Ugh, so many factors... the head is spinning! Do you really need to deal with all the reasons and read tons of technical documentation?

Of course not! I have prepared for you a universal solution to the error 0x00000139.

How to fix Kernel Security Check Failure Windows

Faced with a kernel security check error, I have tried all possible methods from my own experience and put together actionable recommendations for you to eliminate the error 0x0000039. This guide writes for Windows 10 but will be relevant for earlier versions of Windows as well.

So, you see this unfortunate inscription on the screen. What are your actions?

Checking the hard drive

The first thing you should do is check your hard drive for faults.

  1. Open the Start menu - Search - Enter Command Prompt. Then, right-click on the Command Prompt and run it as administrator.

Run a Command Prompt as administrator

  2. Enter the chkdsk C: /f command.

    chkdsk C: /f command

You will see a message asking you to agree or refuse verification on reboot.

  3. Enter Y and press Enter.

User must be agreed or refuse verification drive on reboot

  4. Restart your computer and wait for a complete disk check. The hard disk check can take quite a long time. It depends on the size of the drive and the number of files on it.

P.S. If you want to check the hard disk surface for errors, enter the chkdsk C: /f /r command. For a complete list of commands, enter chkdsk/?.

Important: if you have several hard drives on your computer, check each one according to the same principle as I indicated above. But instead of the C: drive, check, for example, the F: drive (depending on which drive on your computer is the system drive).

The Command Prompt checks the C: drive by default since this drive most often the system.

Checking system files

If your hard drive is healthy, the problem might be corrupted system files. To do this, you need to

  1. Run Command Prompt as administrator again.
  2. Enter the sfc/scannow command.

sfc/scannow command

This function checks the integrity of the operating system files. If damaged files are founding, the utility will try to repair them.

Perform a RAM test

Kernel security check failure might be caused by memory issues. If your computer has multiple RAM modules, try working with one of them in turn. Trace which of the RAM modules is causing the failure.

However, I still recommend not to waste time and immediately check the RAM for faulty modules.

To check the RAM for faulty modules,

  1. Open Search in the taskbar and enter the word "memory". You will immediately see the Windows Memory Diagnostic, which must run as administrator.

Run a Windows Memory Diagnostic as administrator

  1. You can perform an urgent scan with a computer restart or postpone the scan until the next system restart.

The computer's RAM will check at boot time, so it may take a little longer than usual for the computer to turn on.

  1. After the PC boots up, you will see an icon on the taskbar informing you that the memory check was performed. Click on it to see the diagnostic results.

If the diagnostic tool detects an error, you first need to determine which of the RAM modules is faulty (if there is more than one on your computer). To do this,

  1. Rerun the Windows Memory Diagnostic and select the option to run the tool when the computer restarts.
  2. Next, you need to turn off the computer and leave only one module in the RAM slots.
  3. After that, the computer will turn on, and the diagnostics will run again.

By rearranging the modules, you can determine which one is faulty.

Restore registry files from a backup

Computer viruses, applications, or even you can interfere with the computer's registry, thereby changing various parameters!

Usually, the user makes changes to the registry knowingly or under the guidance of authoritative specialists. However, even if you did not make changes to the registry, viruses or various programs could have done it for you.

Changes to the registry can have consequences, one of which is the kernel security check failure.

I recommend making sure that you or third-party programs have not tampered with the registry. To do this, you need to restore it from a backup.

Microsoft foresaw that users or third-party programs could tamper with the registry and damage Windows registry files. To avoid this, there is one folder in the system files that stores the default registry data. You can find this folder on your computer: [Your system drive]:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack.

Default registry data locates in the files: Default, Sam, Security, Software, and System.

To restore Windows registry files, you must place the backup files in the folder that contains the current version of the operating system registry. For example, the registry data use by Windows can be found this: [Your system drive]:\Windows\System32\config.

Check drivers for faults

A common cause of a kernel security check failure is faulty drivers. Perhaps you have an out-of-date version of the drivers installed, or they conflict with the operating system.

Be that as it may, I recommend downloading the current driver version for your computer. You always find a new version on the vendor's website.

Besides the drivers, you need to update the BIOS to the latest version.

BIOS is a small mechanism in a chain of computer components on which the correct operation of the entire computer system depends! The BIOS is sewn onto the motherboard's USB flash drive and gives instructions to the devices on what and how to do to start the computer correctly.

Can you imagine my reaction when such a burden of responsibility fell on my shoulders? However, after studying the BIOS settings, I realized that there was nothing complicated here.

You need to find out the exact model name of your motherboard (for example, Z170A Gaming Pro).

Important: Pay attention to the exact name of the motherboard. As a rule, a motherboard model can have several modifications.

  1. You need to download the latest BIOS version from your motherboard manufacturer's website.
  2. Unpack the downloaded archive and copy it to a workable USB flash drive.
  3. Reboot the computer and enter the BIOS as provide on your PC or laptop.

Check out the tables below and choose the appropriate keyboard shortcut.

Important: Please note that the keyboard shortcuts could be different for computers and laptops.

  1. Use the menu for BIOS updates.

Before updating the BIOS, I strongly recommend you save all necessary files to a removable drive (for example, a USB flash drive).

An unsuccessful update will not damage the data on the hard drive, but you will not be able to access it.

I also advise you to create a BIOS backup. As a rule, the backup creates automatically. Otherwise, you will be prompt to do it manually.

If, despite all my recommendations, the update hasn't been successful, don't worry! All is not yet lost. Leave your computer on, close the update utility and restart the process to see if it works or not.

If you made a backup, you try choosing this file to install rather than a new one. By the way, some motherboards provide a backup function, which allows you to restore information from it.

These methods helped me fix the kernel security check failure. So, kernel security check failures are a fate that will befall us all? Unfortunately yes. The good news is you now have my article -the guide on how to fix the death screen error. It means that you are armed with knowledge and will be able to help others as well.

How to fix blue screen of death

The recommendations that I wrote above are also relevant for fixing other Windows stop codes.

However, the blue screen can appear not only due to faulty drivers or corrupted system files. So, how to "stop" Windows stop code?

Prevent your PC from overheating

You might be interested in how are components connected with the appearance of a blue screen? The answer is simple: overheating negative affects the performance of your computer's components. For example, the video card or RAM can fail, and in this case, the blue screen of death is not the worst thing that will await you.

I recommend making sure that your computer doesn't overheat:

  • Clean your computer from dust regularly.
  • If you have a laptop, use it only on a hard surface. The soft surface blocks the flow of air in your computer. As a result, the cooling system stops working, and the device overheats.
  • I also recommend buying oil from specialized technical stores and periodically lubricating coolers with it.
  • If necessary, buy a separate cooler to create the correct airflow in the system unit.

Disabling automatic restart

I strongly advise you to disable automatic system restart. I guarantee this method will significantly reduce the risk of the screen of death appearing!

To do this

  1. Open My Computer (in Windows 10 - This PC) - Properties - Advanced system settings - Startup and Recovery - Settings.

Disabling automatic restart

  1. After opening the settings, uncheck the Automatically restart box.

Uncheck the Automatically restart box

Checking PC on the malware

If previous methods did not help you, most probably, the screen of death is provoked by malware on your computer.

To check this

  1. Download the latest Windows update and check your system for malware.
  2. You can also use third-party antivirus software. Remember, good antivirus software must be effective, reliable, and safe.

I recommend purchasing antivirus software only from official websites. I also recommend using Norton Security, BullGuard Internet Security, and Avast Premium Security antivirus software to check your device. If viruses founded, remove or quarantine them.

  1. If you want to use a third-party antivirus program, download the installer file only from official sites. An antivirus program downloaded from an unverified source can pose a security risk to your system!

Conclusion

The Blue Screen of Death is an error that every computer user has encountered. Someone managed to solve the problem fast and easy, and someone turned to the service center for help so that they would never see this terrifying message on the screen again.

Now that you're weaponized with my troubleshooting tips, you're not afraid of the blue screen of death!
